Lol this is 3 years late but having the strap be detachable on one side could mean that a person could use it to add a strap extender which could be helpful if they were a bigger person or wanted the bag to fall lower or something like that. It could also work if you wanted to add a small bag on a bigger bag for whatever reason, you could hook it through the straps. You could hang it from a stroller. I think it just makes the bag more functional.

When i look for vintage 501s - i prefer a vintage levi 501xx w/ a tag that says “W28” w/ the actual measurements being around a 26 for reference.. if you’re ever in the LA area reformation vintage sells vintage levis you can try on - there is also a vintage levi store in the LA area as welll

my mom and i used to get a lot of reformation pieces, and i don’t think they’re actually as nicely made as u would think 🤧 i’d recommend if u love something get it but try to get it through nordstrom, they have great return policies in case it isn’t what u expect! i wear my white maxi skirt year round with skin-colored fleece-lined tights ❤ the flora dress by moonkissed collective is a very similar shape to the dresses shown with a beautiful flower detail! i always get compliments when i wear mine!! my spring wishlist items are yellow rainboots (which i just got my perfect pair from depop), bunny slippers, and any dresses by frankie’s bikinis or for love & lemons

I have a lot of vintage Levi’s 501s. I am a very similar height and size to you and I take a 29 and a 30 or 32 in height. Ask the seller to measure the waist when laid flat and compare it to pants you own. I would recommend a 28 or 29 though :)
